Founded in 1794, Cheshire Academy is a college preparatory boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 and postgraduate. The Academy, located only two hours from Boston and New York, challenges its students to maximize their potential by developing the confidence, character, and critical thinking skills that enable them to thrive as global citizens.
Cheshire Academy takes a flexible and tailored approach, allowing students to combine a variety of academic and extracurricular offerings optimal to their individual needs, strengths, and interests.
From 2015-2019, 99% of Academy graduates attended selective colleges and universities, including Boston University, Princeton, University of California Los Angeles, Harvard, and University of Pennsylvania.
The school takes a very global approach to its community. Out of the school’s 304 students, about 192 (63%) are boarding students. Of these, approximately 52 students are international boarders representing 20+ countries. Boarding at Cheshire Academy gives you endless opportunities to make friends from all over the world in addition to experiencing the American culture and excellent academics.
Cheshire Academy’s historic 104-acre campus is nestled in the countryside but still near the central town of Cheshire, Connecticut, just two hours from both Boston and New York and only 20 minutes from New Haven, home of Yale University. Explore nearby smaller towns, fill up your afternoons with 30+ sports and endless extracurricular activities, or relax on campus.
ACADEMICS
Cheshire Academy’s academic process starts with what students know and want to know, and develops active learners who reflect on their growth and the implications of their learning. With an average class size of 10 and a 6:1 student-teacher ratio, every student is guaranteed a personal and tailored learning experience.

Cheshire Academy also offers various other programs. If you’re an aspiring artist, the unique Art Major Program is ideal for those who plan to continue on to an arts or design program at the university level. For recent high school graduates, the school offers a comprehensive Postgraduate (PG) Program for students to build upon their skills, improve their academic portfolio, and prepare for their next step of attending college.
