Boarding School Exchange at
Lyndon Institute

Founded in 1867, Lyndon Institute is an independent and comprehensive day and boarding school for grades 9-12. The school provides its students with a learning environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, inquiry, and reflection, allowing them to find their passion in a caring and supportive environment.

Lyndon Institute is dedicated to providing a unique educational experience for its students that leads to a lifetime of learning and good citizenship. The school motto is “Per Aspera Ad Astra” – Through Hard Work You Reach The Stars, and this engagement shows in the school’s college placement. Students are often  accepted at America’s “Top 100” colleges and universities ranging from the Ivy League to excellent liberal-arts colleges and national research universities.

Each year, around 500 students enroll at Lyndon Institute. The majority are local day students from dozens of area towns and villages, but 10% are international students representing over 20 different countries, including for example Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.

Lyndon Institute offers more than 70 different sports, clubs, programs, and activities for you to enjoy. The school is located in beautiful Vermont, which offers rich opportunities to explore nature. Vermont is known for its many ski resorts, including Burke Mountain located only 10 minutes away in the 300-acre Binney Woods forest. If you want to experience big city life, Boston is only a couple of hours away!

ACADEMICS

At Lyndon, classes have a small student:teacher ratio of 10:1, and students enjoy personal attention from the accomplished and devoted faculty. Lyndon also believes that students learn by making connections, and as a result, the school has linked academic areas of study to increase collaboration, shared practices, and interdisciplinary connections.

SUBJECTS

More than 150 courses are offered within six academic areas:

Humanities  | STEM | Languages | Career and Technical Education | International Program & English for Speakers of Other Languages | Fine & Performing Arts

UNIQUE PROGRAMS

The Lyndon Learning Collaborative between Lyndon Institute and Northern Vermont University (NVU) provides the opportunity for eligible Lyndon Institute seniors to obtain a full year of college academic credit through college-level courses offered by NVU. This partnership between the schools enhances dual enrollment and early college initiatives.

THE BOARDING EXPERIENCE

Students from all over the world come together  in the seven beautiful dormitories and experience a global campus-vibe similar to that of American colleges. The boarding program provides a “home away from home” in a safe and comfortable environment, which is especially important when attending as an exchange student from abroad.
