Set in more than 220 acres of beautiful North Yorkshire countryside, Queen Ethelburga’s has provided students with a vibrant and supportive school community since 1912. Students enjoy an innovative and personalised curriculum, an extensive co-curricular provision, and outstanding pastoral care. Queen Ethelburga’s is a relatively large school with 1450 day and boarding school students age 3 months to 19 attending. Of the total, 1100 of students are boarders between the age of 7-18. With 850 international boarders from 65 different nationalities speaking 36 different languages, the student experience at Queen Ethelburga’s is enriching. The school celebrates this incredible cultural diversity, encouraging and respecting individuality, whilst also fostering a sense of community.
The school is located on 220 acres of beautifully maintained grounds with gardens, activity areas, and sports and arts facilities in addition to the 4 different School Houses. ACADEMICS
Queen Ethelburga’s College offers a focused and dynamic academic curriculum. Students follow a traditional GCSE or A Level pathway alongside an exciting range of super-curricular and enrichment options. Students are academically challenged and encouraged to aspire to excellence in small classes of 15 on average. They leave the school as confident, independent learners, well prepared to succeed in higher education and their future careers.
As an international student, your placement is determined not only be age, but also by English and general academic level. Students age 14/15 take GCSE or foundation courses, while upper level students (age 16/17) choose between their A Levels or BCETs depending one their preferred style of learning. A levels take a more traditional and theoretical approach to subjects, while BTECs tend to be more vocational and practical.

These elite pathway programmes are designed with individual talent development as the key component and present opportunities for students to develop their skills through to UK and international competition.

SPARE TIME
If you’re not relaxing on campus, there are plenty of activities to fill your weekend. The city York, both a Roman stronghold and Viking capital, is an exciting mix of traditional history and vibrant cosmopolitan city life filled with shopping, restaurants, and other interesting sites.
Both York and the nearby Harrogate are popular places to visit, and students enjoy everything from theme parks, historic sites, exhibition centres, ice rinks, tourist attractions, cinemas, theatres, and concert halls.
From time to time, there are weekend or holiday trips which take students all over the world. Some are purely educational whilst others offer volunteering opportunities. These include the opportunity to learn or master a skill.
Learn how to ski or dive in Europe; contribute to conservation and community projects in Africa, Australia and Thailand; and learn about history and culture in major cities such as Barcelona, London, Rome, New York and Washington D.C.
